Experts agree that physical literacy is not merely about excellence in just one sport or activity. Physical literacy, as defined by Physical and Health Education (PHE) Canada, states: children who are physically literate can move with competence in a wide variety of physical activities that benefit the development of the whole person. "Children with a good background in physical literacy are better equipped to succeed in all kinds of physical activity." HIGH FIVE® 2013

We want to assist caregivers to help their children to diversify their activities to include meaningful physical activities. Children are wired to be 'busy as bees' so why not give them an active start!

We Prepare Children to.

  • Become confident among their peers.
  • Have fewer tears and be less self-conscious about things like striking out or fumbling a ball on their turn - feelings that can cause them to become frustrated and turned off from sports altogether.
  • Have the physical and mental skills necessary to enjoy learning a game (like the ability to pay attention, focus, and follow rules).
  • Develop their personal interests and abilities in physical activity.
  • Develop team-player and sportsmanship attitudes.
  • Develop life-long healthy lifestyle habits and remain physically active.
  • Be more coordinated and ready for organized sports by the elementary school year.

Why we do it.

  • We’re parents too.
  • We were concerned that our own kids were being thrown off by the power of technology. Technology in itself is not bad. In fact, children should be given opportunities to explore the power of technology. It is our job as caregivers to help children to diversify their activities.
  • We love fitness and things to do with wellness.
  • Our instructors include certified personal trainers and registered early childhood educators – but the one thing we have in common is our passion for helping kids to be healthy.
  • We want to inspire physical activity in kids.
  • We want to help children to have an active start and maintain a healthy balanced lifestyle for life.

Our programs are facilitated by professional certified Personal Trainers and Registered Early Childhood Educators (RECE). Our facilitators have experience working with children with various abilities and possess up to date CPR and Vulnerable Sector Screening (Police Clearance). Our facilitators are HIGH FIVE® certified which is a way to make your child's program a quality program. Our staff: child ratio ensures excellent supervision and care.

Bee-nastics as a Toddler (ages 24-36 months old)

Child + one parent/caregiver required

This program is an introduction to Physical Literacy where these active and energetic children will delight in exploring movement through a variety of fun and safe activities. Classes are designed to be attended by a parent or caregiver who becomes role models as they participate with their child. However, increased independence will be encouraged in preparation for entry into kindergarten. Basic listening will also be introduced as children will be encouraged to learn our “Bee-nastics chant” (simply melody) and other fun signals that prompt them to follow through with basic instructions throughout the class.

Each class will begin with a welcome poem and warm up. Each class will focus on developing the ABC’s of Movement – Agility, Balance, Co-ordination, and Speed. Through a variety of fun repetitious activities, with one new activity introduced each day, children develop balance, eye-hand/foot coordination, body orientation, body awareness and gross motor skills. Each class will end with a cool down and stretching positions. Every child will leave with a fun Bee-nastics’ sticker that changes weekly. Parents and caregivers will receive weekly information handouts with exercises they can safely do at home as a family.

Bee-nastics as a Kinder (ages 4-5-years-old JK/SK)

Independent child - drop-off*

This program is a continuation of Physical Literacy where these active and energetic children move towards increased independence something that may still be a little daunting for them but are necessary, especially for their elementary school years. They will explore movement through a variety of fun and safe physical activities. Basic listening will be introduced as children will be encouraged to learn our “Bee-nastics chant" (simply melody) and other fun signals that prompt them to follow through with basic instructions throughout the class.

Each class will begin with a welcome poem and warm up. Each class will focus on developing the ABC’s of Movement – Agility, Balance, Co-ordination, and Speed. Through a variety of fun repetitious activities, with one new activity introduced each day, children begin to master the skills of developing balance, eye-hand/foot coordination, body orientation, body awareness and gross motor skills. Manipulative activities are introduced to sports skills such as kicking, catching and throwing. Children will learn how to take turns, be team players and win and lose graciously. Each class will end with a cool down and stretching positions. Every child will leave with a fun Bee-nastics’ sticker that changes weekly.

Seeing children on the go with a purpose, develop a desire for exercise and other healthy habits, build friendships and a sense of community, and adults interact and get moving as well (in the Toddler class) are just a few of the benefits to participating in My BLH Wellness Bee-nastics programs.
